Violence in Assam 2012

Assam has had a very troublesome months this year one of the most recent problems being the clashes between Bodos and the Muslim settlers in the month of July-August 2012. The violence caught the attention of the national media and it was so bad that certain internet sites were blocked by the Indian government. The causes of the violence are many the immediate cause being the killing of the four Bodo youth in Kokrajhar district. One of the main causes of the violence I believe is the illegal immigration of the Bengali speaking Muslims who have settled all over Assam including B.T.A.D area. This has caused a feeling of insecurity among the local Bodos. It is also the failure of the Assam government to check the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. It should not be looked at as a micro issue however it is a national issue. The failure of the Indian government to protect the rights of the citizens and failure to check illegal immigration.
